The criteria for good maternity: home, clinic or hospital?
It's not
easy to choose your place of delivery: home, clinic or hospital.
While home
birth is infrequent in France, it accounts for 30% of births in the
Netherlands. Though a minority, this option is still valid and makes it
possible to leave the choice between the clinic and the hospital.
To help you
in choosing maternity, here is a list of points to check:
- have a
resuscitation room suitable for infants in the event of confinement
- be able
to benefit from preparation for childbirth
- have, if
desired, an epidural delivery (in this case, an interview with the anesthetist
is mandatory before delivery)
- have, if
you wish, a single room
- having,
if desired, the presence of the father or a relative at the birth
- have, if
you wish, the baby near to the room
- ask how
many days you have to stay after giving birth because in some hospitals, you
will only be kept for two days (too little in my opinion because the mother
must have time to recover).
- ask for a
full estimate of what will cost you your childbirth and verify that these
expenses will be refunded to you by the social security or your mutual (know
that in a non-accredited clinic the expenses can be very important): these
questions are to ask To the secretariat of your maternity.
- inquire
about the time of visits.
Generally,
each maternity unit has an internal regulation and a hospitality booklet that
answers the vast majority of your questions: ask them for the first appointment
with your obstetrician.
