The eyes to which antibiotic eye drops are administered, the navel disinfection following the cut of the umbilical cord and the vitamin K1 to counter the hemorrhagic disease of the newborn. Baby, after birth, is placed in a sheet, it is not washed immediately. The vernix is ​​supposed to protect it. A first bath may take place between 2 and 3 days after delivery. Some measures will then be taken, knowing that this can be done in the days following birth. The size, weight and cranial perimeter are then measured.

The Guthrie Test

On the 3rd or 4th day after birth, the Guthrie test is also performed to detect certain rare diseases (sickle cell anemia, cystic fibrosis, congenital adrenal hyperplasia ...). If the test is positive, a genetic search is carried out. Finally, after birth, deafness screening is performed quickly.

Birth and feeding

After birth
